On Sunday 15th May we ran the Breakfast with the Birds, Dawn Chorus Walk at Surlingham Church Marsh. There were 35 enthusiastic walkers and we divided into 2 groups, one led by Peter Armitage and the other led by Rodney Aldiss and Jake Zarins. It was a fine sunny morning and the birds were in full song as we walked along the riverside, reedbeds and open water of the RSPB reserve. There were a total of 42 Birds spotted; with the highlight being a fluffy, tawny owl chick sat on a tree stump, while the mother owl was keeping an eye close by. We were also treated to the sight of a pair of cuckoos flying over our heads, and to a reed warbler singing in the reeds just a few feet from us. When the walk was completed we were warmly welcomed by Sonia of the Surlingham Ferry House pub who served us with a hearty full English Breakfast ( with a vegetarian option available as well). This was a truly splendid wildlife event, which was well worth the early start.

Thanks to Peter for this write up. Church Marsh never disappoints and this is always a delightful event. Speaking of events, the group have a committee meeting tomorrow, so we can hopefully firm up a few more events in 2022 and get something like a calendar out to you via our website and social media channels. ""
