An audience of over 50 came to hear Ben Lewis, RSPB warden, talk about his favourite wildlife icons. These included favourites popular with many in the audience such as the native Swalllowtail Butterfly, Taiga Bean Geese and the green eyed Norfolk Hawker Dragonfly. Ben showed some amazing aerial photographs of the South Yare Valley that highlighted a complex pattern of fen reed beds, drainage ditches and grassland including Strumpshaw Fen and Wheatfen. The management of these precious reed bed fens was explained and we were left in no doubt about the importance of the right kind of human intervention required to conserve many species of flora as well as fauna that we should never take for granted.
